AL knows what to do if someone threats: Hasan

CHATTOGRAM, July 18, 2023 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said his party knows what to do if someone gives threat and tries to create violence.

"BNP would try to create chaos ahead of the election. But, we don't give any scope to them. Awami League knows what to do if someone gives threat," he said while addressing a 'Peace and Development Rally' at Chattogram Old Railway Station.

AL Chattogram city unit organised the rally as part of the countrywide programme of Awami League.

The minister said BNP is observing different programmes in the name of movements across the country with the aim of creating violence. They want to fish in muddled water, he added.

Dr Hasan said the party (BNP) held 'youth rally' at different places a few days ago. But, most of the people joined those rallies were 50 to 60 years old, he added.

He said BNP leaders and activists were involved in clashes with police in different places of the country. In fact, their main motive is to create disorder, he added.

He said Awami League is a party of masses. Leaders and activists of AL will be on the streets till the polls and they would return home after electing AL President Sheikh Hasina as the Prime Minister for the fifth time with people's verdict, he noted.

The information minister said the country would run as per the constitution of Bangladesh and the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would not run according to anyone's prescription.

He said many heads of the state and government called the premier to stop the trial of war criminals as BNP-Jamaat had insisted on them. But, Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina didn't care and the verdicts were executed, he added.

Dr Hasan said delegations of the US and the EU didn't talk about caretaker or poll-time governments. The next general elections will be held like all other democratic countries including the USA, the UK, India, Australia, Japan and many continental European countries, he added.

The information minister said the incumbent government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will perform as the election-period government like all other democratic countries.

He said AL Chattogram city unit is a strong organization. But, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has visited the port city several times. There is no benefit to doing it, he added.

About the by-polls of Dhaka-17 constituency, the information minister said attacks were carried out on candidate Hero Alam with the aim of ill motive. Many attackers were arrested, he added.

Condemning the attack, Dr Hasan said miscreants carried out the attack conspiratorially.

AL Chattogram city unit general secretary and former city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, vice presidents Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul, Noym Uddin Chowdhury, Khorshed Alam Sujan and Altaf Hossain Bacchu, organising secretary Noman Al Mahmud, MP, AL leader Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury and AL nominated candidate for Chattogram-10 Mohiuddin Bachchu, among others, addressed the meeting with AL city unit president Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury.
