DMP takes 3-tier security for Ekushey Book Fair

 

DHAKA, Jan 31, 2023 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq today said they have taken foolproof security measures like the previous years ahead of the month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair beginning tomorrow.

"A three-tier security has been taken in and around the Ekushey Book Fair venue," he said while talking to reporters after visiting the book fair venue in the city's Suhrawardy Udyan.

Asked about any threat, he said, "There is no specific threat centering the book fair. None would be allowed to enter the venues without going through search as we are committed to ensure security for the book lovers."

Recalling all the brave martyrs of the language movement along with the great contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Faruq said, "The book fair of Bangali heritage is going to start from tomorrow in the month of great language." 

Earlier, a coordinated meeting was held with various organisations regarding the overall security of the fair ground.

CCTV cameras have been installed at the fair venue. Besides, 1500 police personnel will be deployed to ensure the overall security of the fair.

He also said that they have made special arrangements so that visitors can easily enter the book fair. There will be separate gates for entering and exiting the fair and the visitors will be checked by the archway and metal detectors, added the DMP commissioner.

There will be parking arrangements at the fair venue, he said.

Dhaka University (DU) Proctor Prof Golam Rabbani, Counter Terrorism and Additional commissioners of DMP Md Hafiz Akter and Mohammad Harun or Rashid, other police officers, Dhaka, Bangla Academy officials were present on the occasion.
