Govt to take steps in preventing anti-state news: Hasan

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 30, 2023 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said steps will be taken to prevent anti-state news publishing on online platforms as the government has a plan to this end.

"Steps will be taken to stop publishing of anti-state news on online platform if allegation is made in this regard," he said in reply to a question of Jatiya Party lawmaker Md Mujibul Haque in the question-answer session in Parliament.

Hasan said currently the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has given registrations to a total of 346 online newspapers including 162 online news portals, 169 online news portals of daily newspapers and 15 online portals of television channels. 

On the basis of information of intelligence agencies of the government, a letter has already been sent to Posts and Telecommunications Division to cancel domain allocation of 191 online news portals and shut their link as those portals were found conducting activities to mislead the people.
