SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS) – The proposed budget allocated Tk 46,738 crore for Primary and Mass Education Ministry for 20026-2027 fiscal aiming to develop a smarter and technology-driven elementary schooling in the country.
According to budgetary documents placed by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury the amount for the outgoing financial year’s revised budget was Tk 31,781.82 crore.
Of the proposed allocation, Tk 25,297.34 crore has been earmarked for operational expenditure, while Tk 21,440.58 crore has been allocated for development spending.
According to the budget proposal, the government seeks to implement the Fifth Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP-5) in the next fiscal, to largely fulfill the new BNP government’s electoral commitments related to primary education.
The proposal outlined plans to revise pre-primary and primary curriculum and strengthen the preparation, printing and free distribution of textbooks in line with updated syllabus to ensure quality primary education comparable to international standards.
The budged simultaneously intended to improve students' health and nutrition, increase school attendance and reduce dropout rates partly by nationwide expansion of School Feeding Programme.
The stipend programme for primary school students will also continue in the next fiscal year.
The budget also proposed initiatives for need-based infrastructure development in government primary schools, establishment of new government primary schools in Dhaka city and Purbachal and renovation and beautification of existing school infrastructures.
