SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS)- Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has reaffirmed the government's commitment to preserving the history and legacy of the Great Liberation War while continuing support for the country's freedom fighters and their families.

Presenting the fiscal measures for the upcoming financial year while placing the national budget in Jatiya Sangsad today, the minister announced that the monthly honorarium for general freedom fighters will remain unchanged at Taka 20,000.

At the same time, he proposed a Taka 5,000 increase in monthly allowances for the families of titled freedom fighters across all categories. 

Under the revised structure, families of Bir Shreshtha recipients will receive Taka 40,000 per month, while allowances for the families of Bir Uttam, Bir Bikram, and Bir Protik recipients will be Taka 30,000, Taka 25,000, and Taka 25,000 respectively.

The finance minister said that additional welfare benefits, including festival allowances, Bangla New Year allowances, medical services, and funeral grants, will continue under existing government programmes.

Highlighting efforts to modernize service delivery, Chowdhury noted that a consolidated database of freedom fighters has been prepared through the Management Information System (MIS). 

Allowances are now being transferred directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts through the Government-to-Person (G2P) payment system, ensuring greater transparency and efficiency, he said.

He added that state honorarium for war-wounded freedom fighters, titled freedom fighters, and families of martyred freedom fighters are being disbursed smoothly through the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) mechanism.

The minister also emphasized initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic condition of the freedom fighters. Under a program implemented by the Bangladesh Rural Development Board, eligible beneficiaries are receiving loan facilities to support income-generating activities and economic empowerment.

To further enhance housing security for freedom fighters, the government has undertaken a plan to construct 4,730 Bir Nibas homes during fiscal year 2026–27, providing permanent housing support to eligible families across the country.
