SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - The government has proposed an allocation of Taka 9,080 crore for the Ministry of Shipping in the national budget for fiscal year (FY) 2026-27.
The proposed allocation is higher than the revised budget of Taka 6,828 crore for FY2025-26. However, the proposed allocation is lower than the original budgetary allocation of Taka 10,279 crore for the Ministry of Shipping in FY2025-26.
The proposed allocation reflects an increase of Taka 2,252 crore compared with the revised allocation of the outgoing fiscal year, while it is Taka 1,199 crore less than the original allocation for the same period.
"The government intends to leverage regional advantages to boost commerce, specifically focusing on the maritime sector. There is a commitment to establishing Chattogram as the country's commercial capital and a regional trade and logistics hub," Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said in his budget speech.
"In the coming years, the government will further modernise the water transport sector and develop it into a sustainable an internationally competitive system through the implementation of major projects such as the Matarbari Deep Sea Port and the Chattogram Bay Terminal, enhancement of port capacity, expansion of dredging activities and wider adoption of digital and automation systems," he added.
Simultaneously, international trade and the integrated maritime transport system are being further strengthened through the implementation of the Matarbari Deep Sea Port, Chattogram Bay Terminal, Patenga Container Terminal and Laldiya Container Terminal, as well as the construction of modern port infrastructure.
