SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud
Chowdhury has proposed the complete withdrawal of the Taka 300 specific tax
previously imposed on each mobile SIM card in the fiscal year 2026-27 budget
to make mobile services more affordable and expand digital inclusion.

While unveiling the maiden national budget for fiscal year 2026-27 of BNP
government at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS), the Finance Minister in his budget
speech today said the measure is expected to result in a revenue sacrifice of
approximately Taka 12 billion.

The decision forms part of broader reforms in the telecommunications sector
aimed at improving access to digital services and increasing public
participation in the digital economy.
