SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS) – Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has proposed a series of measures to modernise the country's jewellery industry and diversify export products by easing access to duty-free raw materials for export-oriented manufacturers.
While placing the national budget of around Tk 9.38 lakh crore for FY2026-27 in the Jatiya Sangsad today, the finance minister said a new notification would be issued under the bonded warehouse system allowing duty-free import of raw materials for jewellery production and the subsequent export of finished jewellery in a transparent, orderly and compliant manner.
To further expand export-oriented industries and diversify the country's export basket, he proposed allowing 10 new sectors to import raw materials against bank guarantees without requiring a bond licence.
The sectors include motorcycles, speedboats, fish processing, handicrafts, diversified jute products, diapers and sanitary napkins, crockery, tents, recycled cotton bags and terry towels.
The minister also proposed abolishing the existing legal requirement of a minimum 30 percent value addition for exporting products manufactured from duty-free imported raw materials brought in against bank guarantees without a bond licence.
He said the measures are aimed at facilitating export growth, encouraging industrial diversification and enhancing Bangladesh's competitiveness in global markets.
