SANGSAD BHABAN,June 11, 2026 (BSS) - Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today proposed allocating Taka Tk. 40,246 crore for the Local Government Division (LGD) for fiscal year 2026-2027.
The minister also proposed Taka 1,106 crore for the Rural Government and Cooperatives Division.
"Programs are underway to develop rural roads, bridges, and culverts to strengthen the rural economy and market systems. The government has achieved 93 percent access to all-weather roads and aims to expand this to 100 percent. Efforts are being made to ensure universal sanitation and safe drinking water by increasing the use of surface water treatment plants to reduce dependence on groundwater," the finance minister said in his budget speech.
Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the budget emphasizes canal re-excavation, drainage rehabilitation to mitigate water logging, and the introduction of modern waste management systems.

The finance minister further stated that services provided by Union Parishads and Upazila Parishads are being digitalized to improve efficiency, additionally, birth and death registration services are being improved to support social protection and prevent child marriage.
