Nat'l Mourning Day observed in Gaibandha 

GAIBANDHA, Aug 15, 2023 (BSS)- National Mourning Day and the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman was observed in the district today with due respect and solemnity.

The day was observed with a fresh vow to materialize the dreams of Bangabandhu to build a 'Sonar Bangla' and the farsighted vision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build 'Smart Bangladesh' and to bring back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to execute verdict of the murder case.

 Various government and non-government organisations including district administration, political parties, socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions observed the day. 

Marking the day, district administration chalked out elaborate programmes that included hoisting of national flag at half mast, placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, bringing out mourning procession and distribution of cheques to the trained youths of Department of Youth Development. 

The programmes also included art competition to the children by Zilla Shishu Academy (ZSA), prize distribution to the winners, rendering songs, reciting poems, doa and milad mahfil, arrangement of special prayers and munajat in the mosque, temple and churches and other religious organizations, holding blood donation programme and health camp by health department, and film display at important places by the district information office.

Besides, a discussion on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman organized by district administration was also held at the auditorium of Zilla Shilpakala Academy at 10am with deputy commissioner (DC) Quazi Nahid Rasul in the chair.

Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed the function as the chief guest.

The function was addressed, among others, by superintendent of police Kamal Hossain, chairman of Zilla Parishad Abu Bakar Siddique, Civil Surgeon Dr Abdullahel Mafi, Principal of Gaibandha Govt. College Professor Khalilur Rahman, Sadar upazila chairman Shah Sarwar Kabir and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Matlubour Rahman. 

All district and upazila level officials, political leaders of district AL and its front organizations, public representatives, social workers and members of civil society including journalists of print and electronic media attended the meeting.

The district unit of AL and its associate bodies also observed the day amid different programmes.
