DHAKA, Sept 12, 2026 (BSS)- The National Legal Aid Services Organization
(NLASO) has provided legal assistance at government expense in 4,82,906 cases
to financially disadvantaged litigants across the country since 2009.
The information was stated in a report published on the website of the NLASO.
According to the report, the data covers legal assistance provided through
August 2026. Of the total cases, 3,483 were handled through the Supreme Court
Legal Aid Office, 474,715 through the 64 district legal aid offices across
the country and 4,708 through the Dhaka and Chattogram Labour Legal Aid
Cells.
Legal aid services are being provided through the 64 district legal aid
offices, the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, the Dhaka and Chattogram Labour
Legal Aid Cells and the government legal aid national helpline call centre,
which can be reached toll-free at 16699. The services are also available to
prisoners.
The government provides legal assistance free of cost under the Legal Aid
Services Act to financially disadvantaged and otherwise unable litigants to
ensure access to justice.
The activities of the NLASO are carried out under the Law and Justice
Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
