Sajib on five-day remand over 14kg gold seizure at HSIA

DHAKA, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today placed Bangladesh Biman Airlines Assistant Technical Helper Sajib Kazi on a five-day remand in a case filed under the Special Powers Act over the seizure of nearly 14 kilograms of gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin passed the order as police produced Sajib Kazi, 31, before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand for the sake of proper investigation into the case.

According to the case statement, on a tip-off on September 5, security personnel conducted a special search inside Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that arrived in Dhaka from Dubai via Chattogram. 

Sajib, who was moving suspiciously inside the aircraft's cabin after sensing the presence of security personnel, ran and threw gold bars concealed on his body into the cabin.

Following the search, a packet thrown inside the cabin was recovered. Upon opening it, 120 gold bars wrapped in cloth were found.

Examination showed that the 120 bars weighed 13,992 grams, or nearly 14 kilograms, of 24-carat gold, with an estimated market value of Taka 25.20 crore.

A case was subsequently filed with the Airport Police Station under the Special Powers Act.
