BAGERHAT, Dec 12, 2025 (BSS) - Following a prolonged legal battle, the Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the allocation of four parliamentary seats in Bagerhat.

The Election Commission on Thursday published the official gazette, assigning the constituencies as Bagerhat-1 (Mollahat, Chitalmari, Fakirhat), Bagerhat-2 (Bagerhat Sadar, Kachua), Bagerhat-3 (Rampal, Mongla), and Bagerhat-4 (Morelganj, Sharankhola).

The gazette publication has generated excitement among party leaders and activists, while also fueling speculation among the district's 1.5 million voters over who will secure the coveted BNP nomination and the party's symbol of the paddy sheaf.

Since the announcement of the national election schedule, discussions have intensified in hotels, restaurants, tea shops, and online platforms across Bagerhat district, involving city, upazila, and grassroots leaders, all eager to learn who will receive the party's "golden ticket."

General voters, particularly first-time youth voters, have expressed their hope that party nominations will go to frontline leaders with a proven record of resisting fascist AL government on the streets.

Bagerhat, located in the coastal south near the Sundarbans, holds significant strategic and cultural importance. The district, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Sixty Dome Mosque, has historically faced and overcome natural disasters and wildlife challenges, including crocodiles and tigers.

The four constituencies, covering nine upazilas, 75 unions, and three municipalities, are attracting heavyweight BNP candidates, many of whom have endured political persecution, including attacks and forced exile.

Since Wednesday, local leaders and activists have been awaiting an official announcement from the BNP high command regarding the candidates.

Bagerhat district BNP member secretary Muzaffar Rahman Alam told BSS that five district leaders have been summoned to the central BNP office on Saturday.

The meeting will initially be held virtually with BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, followed by a possible second session with district leaders and prospective candidates to finalize nominations for the four constituencies.

Bagerhat district BNP convener Engineer AT M Akram Hossain Talim said the party's nominees will campaign for the national interest and in the spirit of the liberation war, emphasizing BNP's commitment to disciplined political and democratic values.

He added that all speculations would end once the nominations are officially declared, allowing the district to focus fully on the upcoming election.
