Cyber Security Ordinance allows 2-year jail, Tk 1-crore fine for online gambling 

DHAKA, Sept 19, 2025 (BSS) - The newly issued Cyber Security Ordinance-2025 has inserted provisions allowing anyone found involved in online gambling, fraud and deception, to be penalised with two years in prison or a fine of Taka one crore or both.
 
According to the ordinance, if any person, institution, company or any other organisation creates or operates any portal or apps or device for betting in cyberspace or participates in gambling or provides assistance or encouragement in the game or participates in advertising, online, on social media including Facebook, Google, YouTube, WhatsApp, Twitter TikTok and directly or indirectly promotes or advertises it, then it will be considered a punishable offense.

According to Section 20 of the Cyber Security Ordinance-2025, there is a provision of imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or a fine not exceeding Taka one crore or both for the offenses. 

In addition, there is a directive from the High Court Division to take necessary effective measures to prevent online gambling.

All concerned have been requested to refrain from participating in advertisements and directly and indirectly promoting or advertising to support or encourage betting and to ensure crime prevention and cyber security, all electronic, print and social media outlets concerned are being informed to close, block or remove all online gambling gateways, applications, links, websites and advertisements on an urgent basis in the public interest.
