NAOGAON, Aug 6, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced three people to life-term imprisonment in a murder case that took place in Porsha upazila of the district in 2003.
Judge of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 Md Ferdous Wahid pronounced the verdict around 12 noon, said Additional Public Prosecutor of the court Sabbir Ahmed.
The court also sentenced eight other accused to different jail terms while four were acquitted as the charges brought against them could not be proven.
The convicts who received life-term imprisonment are Abu Bakkar Siddique alias Siddique (absconding), Kadir alias Kader, and Amir Ali alias Amir.
According to the prosecution, a clash broke out between two rival groups over a land dispute at Kalaibari village under Porsha upazila on the morning of August 30, 2003.
Five people - Shafiqul, Mizanur, Serina, Boiful, and Nargis Sultana - sustained serious injuries during the clash and were taken to Porsha Upazila Health Complex. Later, Shafiqul, Serina, and Nargis Sultana were shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated. The three died while undergoing treatment there.
Following the incident, Samad filed a case with Porsha Police Station accusing 26 individuals.
