SANGSAD BHABAN, March 31, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh Jatiya Party Chairman Andaleeve Rahman, MP (Bhola-1) today said both the Constitution and the July National Charter should be respected, stressing the need for national unity and balanced political approach to move the country forward.

He said while taking part in a discussion on the motion for summoning the session of the Constitution Reform Council in parliament today.

Opposition Leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman placed the motion in the House under the Section 62 of the Rules of Procedure for summoning the session of the Constitution Reform Council in line with July National Charter (Constitution Reform) Implementation Order, 2025.

Andaleeve said the current political situation is complex and unique, and there should be no attempt to portray any political group as being against the July movement.

He said his party has no problem with the spirit of the July movement, but it is important to maintain a balance between constitutional continuity and revolutionary aspirations.

“If it was a full revolution, then a revolutionary government could have been formed and a new constitution introduced. But, the country moved through a transitional process under the doctrine of necessity, where the Constitution was respected while reforms were considered,” he said.

He noted that reforms are necessary to ensure democratic stability.

The lawmaker emphasized that politicians must respect both the Constitution and the July National Charter while working towards reforms.

“Unity is the key. We must respect the Constitution and at the same time uphold the spirit of July,” he said.

The lawmaker also called on all political parties to avoid undermining the July movement and to acknowledge the sacrifices of martyrs, including Abu Sayeed, Wasim Akram and others who contributed to the movement.

He urged all sides to sit together, hold discussions and maintain national unity to ensure the country moves forward positively.

The lawmaker also expressed optimism that with good spirit and good intentions, Bangladesh would be able to move ahead while respecting both constitutional principles and the July Charter.
