RAJSHAHI, Feb 8, 2026 (BSS) - Abu Sayeed Chand, BNP candidate for the Rajshahi-6 constituency, has pledged to work for the development of the area with a focus on health, education and the prevention of river erosion.
He said he would prioritize building a corruption- and terrorism-free society and addressing employment problems for both men and women in the constituency, comprising Charghat and Bagha upazilas.
Abu Sayeed Chand made the remarks in an interview at his residence in Salua of Charghat on Saturday, saying that ensuring the basic rights of long-neglected people, including char dwellers, is his primary goal.
He said long-term and sustainable measures would be taken to prevent river erosion in the Charghat-Bagha area.
"Planned rehabilitation and construction of durable housing would be undertaken to ensure safe shelter for erosion-affected families in char areas."
Chand added that riverbank protection work would be carried out under a transparent monitoring system involving experts and the Water Development Board, while the issue would receive special importance in the national budget and the ADP.
Coordinated initiatives would be taken to protect fisheries, agriculture, and river-based livelihoods.
In the fisheries sector, river and canal dredging, establishment of sanctuaries, and the provision of easy-term loans and modern fishing equipment for fishers will be ensured.
In agriculture, initiatives will include expanding modern irrigation systems, providing special assistance to farmers affected by river erosion, and developing supporting infrastructure for storage and marketing of agricultural products.
He also said the government procurement system would be strengthened to ensure fair prices for farmers.
In the health sector, community clinics and sub-health centers at the union level will be made effective and people-friendly.
Alongside addressing shortages of doctors, nurses, and essential medicines, mobile medical teams and telemedicine services will be introduced so that people in remote villages can easily access healthcare.
To improve the education system, initiatives will be taken to develop infrastructure in rural schools, recruit skilled teachers, and supply digital learning materials.
Abu Sayeed Chand also said that stipends, mid-day meals, and special assistance programs would be strengthened to bring dropout students back to school.
In communications, he outlined plans to improve roads connecting villages to markets, upazila headquarters, and the district town, and to construct durable bridges and culverts.
Chand pledged to ensure transparency, freedom from corruption, and active participation of local people in implementing development projects.
To ensure public participation, local consultation meetings and public hearings will be organized for every major project.
At the village and ward levels, representatives of ordinary citizens will be included in project implementation committees so that people themselves can become partners in development, Chand added.
