CHANDPUR, Feb 8, 2026 (BSS) - A.N.M. Ehsanul Huq Milan, BNP candidate for the Chandpur-1 (Kachua) constituency, has pledged to transform Kachua into a modern, terror-free, and drug-free upazila if he gets people’s mandate in the 13th parliament election.

In an exclusive interview with BSS, the former State Minister for Education shared his vision for the upcoming 13th national election.

Milan, who served as a Member of Parliament from 1996–2001 and 2001–2006, has been involved with BNP politics for nearly 40 years.

The highlights of the interview are as follows:
BSS: What are your primary electoral promises to the voters of your constituency?
Ehsanul Huq Milan: My first message to the voters is that no terrorist activities, extortion, or land grabbing will be tolerated in my area. If elected, I will make the local markets (haats and bazaars) tax-free to end the harassment of citizens carried out in the name of market leasing.

Following Begum Khaleda Zia’s emphasis on rural development, I will focus on technical education and generating employment for the youth.

BSS: What instructions have you given to your activists regarding the electoral code of conduct?
Ehsanul Huq Milan: This election is a long-awaited fulfillment of the nation's aspirations and a first for the younger generation. As the largest political party, the BNP bears a significant responsibility to ensure a fair and normal election; if any discrepancies occur, the party will face public scrutiny. We have strictly instructed our activists to follow the Election Commission’s rules 100%, and as politicians, we are committed to ensuring no deviations occur.

BSS: What is your stance on the implementation of the "July Charter"?
Ehsanul Huq Milan: While I personally believe the referendum on the July Charter could have been simplified into "Yes" or "No" formats, its core principles align with the 31-point state reform proposal previously introduced by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. Those of us who believe in the BNP's activities for state repair cannot deviate from these points or the July Charter.

BSS: What are your expectations for the upcoming national election?

Ehsanul Huq Milan: We expect a fair, neutral, and peaceful election. We are looking forward to the peaceful environment promised by the government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus. If we win, our goal is to present a prosperous Bangladesh on the global map by solving problems in both rural and urban areas.

In the Chandpur-1 (Kachua) seat, a total of six candidates are competing. Milan’s opponents include Abu Nasir Mohammad Maqbul Ahmed (Jamaat-e-Islami/11-party alliance), Mohammad Azad Hossain (Gono Forum), Mohammad Nasir Uddin (Bangladesh Islami Front), Md. Enayet Hossain (Ganika Parishad) and Habib Khan (Jatiya Party).

According to official data, there are 3,48,746 total voters in the constituency, including 1,77,884 male and 1,70,859 female voters. Voting will take place across 110 polling centers and 641 polling booths.
