MEHERPUR, Feb 8, 2026 (BSS)- BNP candidate from Meherpur-3 Amjad Hossain has promised to build a drug and terrorist-free Gangni if he is elected in the upcoming national elections.

He said, "First of all, I want to build a drug-free Gangni. The youth today are addicted to drugs. From there, they are moving towards terrorism. They will be brought back to right path through employment."

“People are derailed for lack of love and opportunities and that's why Bringing them back from terrorism to build a peaceful Gangni is the utmost goal,” he said.

Amjad Hossain has been associated with BNP politics for a long time. He is the former president of Meherpur district BNP and a former member of parliament.

In an interview with BSS Meherpur correspondent Dilruba Khatun, he presented his vision and expectations from the national elections.

BSS: What are your election promises to the voters of your area?

Amjad: All our promises are found in the 31-point manifesto of BNP. Currently, we are going to the people with eight points in mind. Gangni is a completely village-centric and agricultural area. The people here are poor and changing their fate, agricultural expansion, resolving the fertilizer crisis and ensuring the health of farmers are our priorities.

The livelihood, economy and future of the people of my constituency depend on agriculture and farmers. Arrangements will be made for the crops produced from villages to reach the city markets quickly. If the communication system is improved, farmers will get fair price. We will also keep an eye on ensuring that no atrocities are committed against farmers.

BSS: What are your instructions to the leaders and activists to follow the electoral code of conduct?

Amjad: We are careful that none of our leaders and activists violates the code of conduct. We are cooperating with the administration for a peaceful election.

BSS: What is your position on the referendum on the July Charter?

Amjad: Our leaders and activists are campaigning for 'Yes' vote on the referendum. People are eager to vote. Whatever the parliamentary elections and referendum, people should return to electoral politics. People will go to vote with the expectation that democracy should be established and vote 'Yes'.

BSS: What are your expectations in the upcoming national elections?

Amjad: BNP is a big party. There are numerous leaders and activists here. Some like me, some like someone else. Everyone works for party candidate. This is the political culture of BNP. That is what is happening in Gangni.

BNP candidate Amjad Hossain, Jamaat-e-Islami's candidate Md. Nazmul Huda and Jatiya Party candidate Abdul Baki are contesting in this seat.

Total number of votes in the constituency is 270,702 including 135,087 male and 135,615 females.
