JASHORE, Feb 6, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for Jessore-2 (Jhikargachha and Chougachha Upazilas) Sabira Sultana has pledged to work towards the development of education, healthcare, and women's empowerment in the region if she gets people’s mandate in the 13th national parliament election.

In an exclusive interview with BSS, Sabira Sultana, wife of former Jashore district BNP finance secretary Nazmul Islam – who was a victim of enforced disappearance and murder during the Awami League government – expressed her commitment to improving the lives of local people, particularly focusing on women’s education and healthcare.

“I promise that if elected, I will work to fix the roads in Chougachha Upazila, as they have been in poor condition for years. I will also prioritize the improvement of education and health services, especially for women,” she said.

Additionally, Sultana said that she will play a role in enhancing the infrastructure of mosques and temples, which have remained underdeveloped.

“As a woman candidate, I am determined to make women self-reliant,” she said.

Sultana also highlighted the importance of combating social issues such as drugs and terrorism.
“I will work towards establishing the rule of law with zero tolerance for drugs and terrorism in the area,” she added.

Regarding the election code of conduct, Sultana emphasized her personal commitment to respecting the law and ensuring that her party’s leaders and workers also follow the code oconduct.

“We will be extremely vigilant to avoid any violation,” she said.

When asked about her position on the upcoming referendum related to the July Charter, Sultana, as a BNP nominee, her stance would align with her party's official decision.

Looking ahead to the national elections, she expressed concerns over signs of bias in certain areas.

“I am a little bit worried about that. We expect the elections to be free and fair, without any bias, and for voting to take place in a transparent and impartial environment,” she said.

Jashore-2, which comprises Jhikargachha and Chougachha Upazilas, has a total of 484,866 voters. Of them, 243,374 are male voters, 241,490 are female, and two voters belong to the third gender.
