PATUAKHALI, Feb 3, 2026 (BSS) - BNP candidate for Patuakhali-4 constituency Alhaj ABM Mosharraf Hossain has pledged to take effective steps for the development of Kuakata and Payra ports.

He is also going to the voters with a pledge to work sincerely to fulfill the expectations of the people of his area, including solving the problems of inadequate communication facilities, river erosion and unemployment.

He came up with the pledges in an interview with BSS correspondent Enamul Haque Ena ahead of the upcoming 13th national elections.

ABM Mosharraf Hossain is serving as the training affairs secretary of the BNP central committee. He is a former central leader of Chhatra Dal and has been associated with BNP politics for a long time. Besides, he is a regular face on various television talk shows. His profession is business.

BSS: What is your election promises to the voters of your area?

Mosharraf Hossain: Patuakhali-4 constituency is a remote area. There are various crises here, including inadequate communication facilities and river erosion. Especially the lack of development centered on Kuakata is clear. There is a port here, which has not yet been fully operational. River erosion and lack of employment have made people's lives miserable. We want to move forward in the coming days by addressing these crises.

My first task for the overall development of Patuakhali-4 constituency will be to transform Kuakata into an international standard tourism centre, ensure full operations of Payra port, develop road and waterway communication and take measures to provide employment for the youth.

BSS: What are your instructions to your party leaders and activists to follow the electoral code of conduct?

Mosharraf Hossain: We are holding a very peaceful election here. Our party leaders and activists have been instructed to follow the code of conduct properly. We want a free, fair and acceptable election.

BSS: What is your personal position on the July Charter and the referendum?

Mosharraf Hossain: There is no room for a personal position on the July Charter and the referendum. To hold on to July, we have to make the 'Yes' win. So, we think that all the leaders and activists of the nationalist party will be in favour of the ‘Yes’ vote in the next election.

BSS: What are your expectations in the upcoming elections?

Mosharraf Hossain: The people of Bangladesh have not been able to vote for the last 17 years. So, this time’s vote is very important. As a nation, we are going through various crises. A stable government or a democratic government is very necessary for Bangladesh. I think BNP can provide that. So, I believe that the people will trust BNP in forming the next government.

Candidates for the Patuakhali-4 (Kalapara-Rangabali) constituency are active in the election field. Development, communication system, employment and restoration of democracy are gaining importance as issues in this constituency, which consists of the tourist town of Kuakata, Payra port and vast river and marsh areas.

Patuakhali-4 constituency consists of Kalapara and Rangabali upazilas. As this area is geographically surrounded by rivers and seas, natural disasters, river erosion and communication problems have been a big challenge for a long time.

According to the Election Commission, the total number of voters in this constituency is 3,12, 601. Of them, 1,58,130 are male voters, 1,54,466 are female voters and 5 are third gender voters.
