SUNAMGANJ, Feb 1, 2026 (BSS) - BNP candidate for the Sunamganj-4 constituency Advocate Nurul Islam Nurul has pledged to improve education and implement BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s 31-point agenda, if people elect him in the upcoming 13th national election.
Advocate Nurul Islam, former general secretary of Sunamganj district BNP and a current member of its convening committee, has received the party nomination for the Sunamganj-4 seat in the election.

In an interview with BSS, Nurul Islam said whenever BNP candidates were elected as members of parliament from the constituency, development took place in the area.

He cited the construction of key bridges, including the Sunamganj Abdul Jabbar Bridge (Surma Bridge) and connecting bridges linking Sunamganj district headquarters with five upazilas, which were built during the tenure of former finance minister Saifur Rahman.

He added that both rural and urban development will follow the path of the past during BNP governments.

Outlining his commitment to the people, he said if elected again from Sunamganj-4, he would stand beside working people and work for development of roads, education and the health sector, alongside implementing Tarique Rahman’s 31-point programme.

Regarding compliance with the electoral code of conduct, Nurul Islam said it is mandatory for all candidates to follow election rules. “I have complied with the code so far and has instructed all leaders and activists to strictly follow the codes in the future as well,” he said.

On the July Charter referendum, he said BNP supports the July Charter and is campaigning in favour of a “yes” vote during electioneering and public outreach.
He said the country endured 17 years of fascism and achieved its liberation through movements and struggles, culminating in the July mass uprising led by students and the people.

“The July Charter was drafted through participation of the interim government and all political parties, who later signed it, and it will now be implemented through a referendum,” he added.

Asked about his expectation, Nurul Islam said he hopes the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election will be a milestone compared to previous polls so that the younger generation no longer claims that votes were cast at night.

He said he expects justice to be established in society.

“The upcoming election has generated optimism among voters, who believe their civic rights will be restored after 17 years,” he added.

The Sunamganj-4 constituency has a total of 341,833 voters, including 173,368 men, 168,463 women and two third-gender voters.

Other candidates contesting the seat include independent candidate Dewan Zainul Zakerin, great-grandson of mystic poet Hasan Raja and former senior vice-president of district BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Advocate Mohammad Shams Uddin, Nayeb-e-Ameer of the party’s district unit, and Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Maulana Shahidul Islam Palashi, the party’s district president.
