NILPHAMARI, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the Nilphamari-2 (Sadar) constituency Md. Al Faruk Abdul Latif has said he wants to create a dynamic economy in the district by establishing heavy industries, expanding the Uttara EPZ, and making the Chilahati land port fully operational.

Assistant Secretary of the district Jamaat Md. Al Faruk Abdul Latif is a lawyer and currently serves as the President of the District Bar Association. His late father, Abdul Latif, was a renowned lawyer and politician. Following his father’s footsteps, Md. Al Faruk Abdul Latif entered the legal profession and politics.

Recently, BSS Nilphamari District Correspondent Bhubon Roy Nikhil interviewed Al Faruk Abdul Latif in which he outlined his plans for the development of the district.

BSS: What are your electoral pledges for the voters of the area?
Al Faruk Abdul Latif: I want to develop the district town into a modern city. There are no wide roads, no bypass, and no direct connectivity with other district towns. I want to connect Nilphamari town with four districts to the east and west and transform it into a transit point, developing it as a commercial hub.

Nilphamari has an EPZ (Uttara) that is still incomplete. There is no container terminal and no direct connectivity with seaports. I want to ensure large-scale industrialization by constructing a container terminal to establish rail and road connectivity with seaports, setting up agro-based industries using locally produced goods, and establishing heavy industries both inside and outside the EPZ. Alongside this, there are plans to establish a university in the district to meet the demand for higher education in the northern region and to expand technical education to address unemployment.

Moreover, if the Chilahati land port becomes fully operational, it will play a major role in the development of Nilphamari. With the impact of international trade, the overall outlook of the district will change significantly.

In addition, it is necessary to attract visitors to archaeological sites such as Nilsagar, Bhimer Chula, Harishchandra Pat, and Dharmapaler Garh to generate revenue for the development of the district, to make the district medical college fully functional, and to enhance health care facilities at various hospitals.

BSS: What instructions have you given to your leaders and activists regarding compliance with the election code of conduct?
Al Faruk Abdul Latif: I have instructed my supporters and activists in my constituency to strictly follow the election code of conduct and assist the Election Commission. The workers of my party are accustomed to following proper guidelines.

BSS: What is your position on the referendum on the July Charter?
Al Faruk Abdul Latif: We played a leading role in the government’s initiative to hold a referendum on the July Charter.

We believe that if the ‘Yes’ vote in favor of the July Charter wins, Bangladesh will be freed from fascism forever. It will create an open opportunity for decentralization of power, independence from foreign domination, and a reduction in corruption. We are campaigning to ensure the victory of the ‘Yes’ vote in favor of the July Charter.

BSS: What are your expectations regarding the upcoming national election?
Al Faruk Abdul Latif: In light of the opportunity created following the fall of a fascist government, the government and district-level administration have assured the nation of delivering the best election in Bangladesh’s history, and we also believe that.

Nilphamari-2 parliamentary constituency consists of the Sadar upazila and is one of the four parliamentary seats in the district. It includes 15 unions and one municipality. The constituency houses various important government and private offices at the district level, including the Uttara EPZ, a textile mill, and a medical college.
