MOSCOW, Aug 30, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - A fire broke out at a Russian oil refinery in the Leningrad region after a drone crashed nearby, local authorities said on Sunday, as Kyiv pressed ahead with its campaign targeting Russia's energy sites.
"A UAV has been reported to have crashed near the oil refinery in the Kirishi District; a fire has broken out and the emergency services are on the scene," Leningrad regional governor Aleksandr Drozdenko wrote on Telegram, without specifying if anyone was wounded.
He added that 42 drones have been shot down over the Leningrad region as air defence operations continued.
