GEORGETOWN, Guyana, 20 JULY 2026 (BSS/AFP) - The passenger manifest of the MV Barima ferry, which capsized off the coast of Guyana overnight, did not reflect the actual number of passengers on board, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill said Sunday.
"Since we have this compromised position of the manifest not being a true reflection of the occupants on board, we are kindly asking members of the public, family members...please engage us," Edghill said.
Authorities had earlier said 116 passengers and 17 crew members were on board the ship, which capsized off the northwestern coast of the English-speaking South American nation, with 67 rescued thus far.
