HANOI, Vietnam, April 7, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Lawmakers in Vietnam elected Communist Party chief To Lam as president on Tuesday, the chairman of the National Assembly said, making Lam head of state as well as general secretary of the ruling party.

"One hundred percent of national assembly deputies approve the resolution electing the president for 2026-2031 term for comrade To Lam", said Tran Thanh Man, who was re-elected chairman of Vietnam's top legislative body on Monday.
