KYIV, Ukraine, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Russian strikes on the Ukrainian port city of Odesa killed at least one person, the city's military administration said early Monday.
Iranian-made drones pummelled the southern city overnight, damaging a gas pipeline and igniting fires at both residential and non-residential buildings, Sergiy Lysak said on Telegram.
"Unfortunately, information appeared about a death as a result of the enemy attack on Odesa," he posted in an update.
Regional governor Oleg Kiper called it a massive attack, and confirmed the fires, but did not immediately have information on a toll.
While the United States is pushing to end Europe's deadliest conflict since World War II by mid-year, Russia continues to bombard its neighbour.
Kyiv and Moscow remain at odds over territorial divisions, with Russia pushing for full control of Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region as part of any deal.
Russia occupies around 20 percent of its neighbour's land.
Throughout the ongoing negotiations, Russia has launched waves of deadly strikes that have cut heating and power to millions during freezing temperatures.
