
RANGPUR, Dec 11, 2022 (BSS) – Officials and academics at a discussion today said visionary great woman Begum Rokeya properly realised the essence of female education for renaissance, socio-economic and political empowerment of the womenfolk.
They mentioned that the philosophy, ideals, thoughts and conscience of Begum Rokeya are playing a crucial role in making policy for time-befitting female education and equal women rights even in the present era of science and technology.
They viewed this at the discussion organised on the concluding function of the three-day observance programs of Rokeya Day-2022 at Begum Rokeya’s birthplace village of Pairaband in Mithapukur upazila of the district this evening.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Abu Jafar attended the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen in the chair.
Additional Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range Police AFM Anjuman Kalam, General Secretary of District Awami League Advocate Rezaul Karim Razu, Mithapukur Upazila Chairman Zakir Hossain Sarker and Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fatematuz Zohra addressed the discussion as special guests.
Former Head of the Department of Islamic History and Culture of Government Begum Rokeya College, Rangpur Professor Dr. Arfina Begum presented the keynote paper on Begum Rokeya in the discussion.
Educationists, researchers, public representatives, sociocultural and literary personalities and civil society members addressed the discussion.
The speakers said the visionary thought, conscience, ideals and philosophy of Begum Rokeya effectively inspired the womenfolk and society as a whole to ensure female education and equal women rights for sustainable social advancement.
Terming Begum Rokeya as a great social philosopher and human rights activist, Advocate Rezaul Karim Razu said Rokeya’s ideals still show the right path and direction to the modern society, generations, politicians and policy-makers.
Begum Rokeya for the first time pioneered female education, penetrating the social curses, superstitions and barriers, in the then conservative colonial society during her lifetime.
“Begum Rokeya will ever shine as an idol for her unparalleled works in the fields of female education and empowerment of women to establish their equal rights leading to the present stage of women advancement,” Advocate Razu added.
The chief guest said the conscience of Begum Rokeya will continue to persuade all concerned, including politicians and policy-makers, to ensure women education and empowerment in building a developed Bangladesh by 2041.
Later, he distributed prizes and medals among winners of different competitions followed by staging of a drama and a colorful cultural function to end the three-day observance tonight in village Pairaband.
