RMP working for ensuring road safety


 
RAJSHAHI, Nov 24, 2022 (BSS)- Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) has been working to ensure road safety through minimizing all the existing problems in this sector.

It has also been putting in its best efforts towards generating awareness among the public in general about road safety and controlling the rate of road traffic accidents.

RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique made the observation while addressing an advocacy meeting styled "Road Safety" at his office conference hall as chief guest with BDRCS Executive Member Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan in the chair.

Rajshahi City unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) organized the meeting in association with its 'Pilot Programmatic Partnership Project'.

RMP Additional Commissioners Faruque Hossain, Bijoy Basak and Samsun Naher addressed the meeting as resource persons. Gourab Roy, Jalil Lone and Muhammad Mohiuddin also on the occasion on behalf of the BDRSC Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique said there are needs of training for the easy bike drivers related to easy bike management and road safety.

"We are very much interested to work in this regard," he mentioned, adding that integrated efforts of all the authorities concerned have become an urgent need for creating mass-awareness about road safety.

He told the meeting that the government has taken initiative to establish training institutes in each district to bring the drivers under training and refreshers training round the year.

Step has also been taken to incorporate the issue of road accidents and its causes and prevention in the course-curriculum besides other various programmes to reduce the country's road accidents by 50 percent within the next 15 years, he added.

Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan said massive public awareness, regular training for drivers and necessary infrastructure are the prime prerequisites for preventing road accidents.

There is no alternative to raising awareness among the public in general to prevent road accidents which is a matter of grave concern.

Calling for strict enforcement of traffic rules to reduce road accidents he opined that if the drivers drive their vehicles carefully the existing number of road accidents could be reduced to a greater extent.
