Rangpur division records 37.18pc Covid-19 positivity rate

RANGPUR, Aug 4, 2021 (BSS) – Rangpur division recorded 37.18 percent Covid-19 positivity rate as 129 fresh cases were reported after testing 347 newly collected samples of all eight districts in the division today.

“The Covid-19 positivity rate is showing a rising trend after remaining mostly steady below the 30 percent mark in recent weeks,” Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said.

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 32.07 percent on Tuesday, 28.65 percent on Monday, 29.75 percent on Sunday, 30.31 percent on Saturday, 26.36 percent on Friday and 26.87 percent on Thursday last in the division.  

Among the 129 new patients, 83 were reported positive after diagnosing 159 newly collected samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city at the highest ever daily positivity rate of 52.20 percent today.

“The 83 new patients include 47 from Rangpur, 12 from Kurigram, 12 from Gaibandha and 11 from Lalmonirhat districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS at 6:50 pm.

On the other hand, 46 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur at the daily positivity rate of 24.47 percent today.

“The 46 new Covid-19 infected patients include 29 from Dinajpur, eight from Thakurgaon, two from Nilphamari and seven from Panchagarh districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain said.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said the number of Covid-19 patients climbed to 46,615 as 129 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 46,615 patients now stands at 10,418 in Rangpur, 2,932 in Panchagarh, 3,805 in Nilphamari, 2,338 in Lalmonirhat, 3,795 in Kurigram, 6,310 in Thakurgaon, 13,009 in Dinajpur and 4,008 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
