CHATTOGRAM, August 2, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 985 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the district during the last 24 hours.

 The number of Covid-19 cases in Chattogram district is on the rise rapidly. New records are being rebuilt every day.

Health officials said the number of the lethal disease speedily raised to 83,871 as 985 more people were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 2,786 samples on Sunday in the district.

The infection rate is 35.35 percent during the period, the sources added.  

“The infection rate is showing a quick enhancing trend again and the recovery rate is also gradually reducing continuously in the district in recent weeks,” Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, focal person of Covid-19 and civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.

The health experts of Chattogram urged city dwellers again and again to strictly follow the health rules and use masks.

Among the newly detected patients, 692 are from Chattogram city and 293 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

With the new 11 fatalities, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 984, Dr Rabbi added.

Among the reported fatalities, 593 were the residents of the port city and the rest 391 were from different upazilas of the district, he continued.

The Civil surgeon said among the total infected patients, 62,790 are the residents of the port city and the rest 21,101 are the inhabitants of different upazilas of the district.   

A total of 3,795 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
