RANGPUR, Oct 14, 2022 (BSS) - The World Standards Day-2022 was observed 
today to raise awareness about the quality of products and services and make 
all developments endurable to attain the sustainable development goals 
(SDGs). 

    The district administration and divisional office of Bangladesh Standards 
and Testing Institutions (BSTI) jointly organized a discussion at the Deputy 
Commissioner's conference room in the city in observance of the World 
Standards Day-2022. 

    The theme for World Standards Day-2022 is 'Shared Vision for a Better 
World.'

     Divisional Commissioner Md Sabirul Islam attended the discussion as the 
chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Md Asif Ahasan in the chair. 

    Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Mohd 
Abdul Alim Mahmud and President of Rangpur unit of Consumers Association of 
Bangladesh Md Abdur Rahman addressed the event as special guests. 

    Deputy Director (Metrology) and Head of Office at BSTI Divisional Office 
in Rangpur Mofiz Uddin Ahmad delivered a welcome speech narrating the 
significance of observing the day to value the need for standardization 
globally.  

    "The process of standardization will also help in promoting trade and 
technical issues associated with standardization," he said. 

    He sought the cooperation of all concerned, including industrialists, 
businessmen, print and electronic media in bringing more dynamism in the BSTI 
activities.  

    Mohd Abdul Alim Mahmud stressed on ensuring standard and quality of 
products and called upon everyone to be aware of adulterated food as there is 
a health risk to prevent the production and sale of adulterated food.  

    Md. Abdur Rahman, President CAB, Rangpur District participated in the 
discussion as a special guest.  

    The Deputy Commissioner said development of the industrial sector 
alongside ensuring high quality and global standards of products is very 
important for achieving the SDGs on the way to build a developed Bangladesh 
by 2041 next.  

    "It is possible to build a sustainable and developed Bangladesh if 
everyone works together in a coordinated initiative," he said. 

    The chief guest said the SDGs are the goals announced by the United 
Nations which must be realized. Care must be taken to ensure that all 
developments are sustainable.  

    "Everyone is working on BSTI standards. So, all sectors should be 
adulteration free. Accurate measurement and quality control of products are 
very crucial in expanding the market and acceptance of products both at home 
and abroad," he said.
