Nutrition Fair, Cooking Competition held in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, AUG 24, 2022 (BSS) - Nutrition Fair and Cooking Competition was

held on the ground of Dwin-Mohammad Government Primary School under Gidari
union of sadar upazila in the district on Tuesday.


With the financial support of European Union Sustained Opportunity for
Nutrition Governance (SONGO) project, which is, being implemented in
Gaibandha and Kurigram districts by RDRS Bangladesh and Cordaid Netherlands
organised the fair and competition.

The objective of the fair and the competition was to create awareness among
the people about nutrition.


To make the people accustomed to feed nutrition foods which are available in
the society is another objective of the fair.


A concluding ceremony was also held on the school ground in the afternoon
with local union parishad chairman Hrun-or Rashid Edu Miah in the chair.

Upazila health and family planning officer Dr Md Nazmus Shakib addressed the
ceremony as the chief guest and upazila family planning officer Mahbuba
Khatun and officer in charge of Sadar thana Masudur Rahman spoke at the event
as special guests.

Medical officer Dr Md Manzurul Hasan Shourav, head teacher of the school
Ayena Shahid, nutrition governance adviser of the project Maniruruzzaman
Mukul, local consultant of the project Afroja Bulbul, upazila coordinator
Mohona Akhter, technical officer Mukta Rani Roy and procurement officer Rubel
Miah addressed the ceremony, among others.


The speakers in their speeches described the health benefits and qualities of
nutrition foods elaborately and urged the local people to consume the
nutrition foods, which grow at the homesteads and its surroundings easily to
meet the demand of nutrition in the human bodies.

Later, the guests formally distributed the crests as gifts to the 3 best
stall owners out of 18.

Earlier, similar fair and coking competition was also held at Sundarganj and
Fulchhari upazila headquarters of the district a few days back at the
initiative of the project, said Mostafa Nurul Islam Reza, lead operations of
the project.
