Expanding tourism sector prospect in Rajshahi bright

RAJSHAHI, Aug 23, 2022 (BSS)- Prospects of expanding, flourishing and promoting the tourism sector in many areas of Rajshahi division are very bright as it has historical, archeological and natural sites to attract the tourists from home and abroad.

There is a need for more investment through adopting time befitting measures of enriching the sites for bolstering the economic condition of the region after the best use of the tourism sector.

 High officials and other stakeholders came up with the observations while addressing a divisional seminar titled "Mujib's Bangladesh, Tourism for Building Prosperous Bangladesh" here yesterday.

Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) and Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner office jointly organized the seminar on a virtual platform in association with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.

Administrative, police and other line department officials and other stakeholders joined the seminar with Division Commissioner GSM Zafarullah in the chair.

Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Mokammel Hossain addressed the meeting as chief guest while BTB Chief Executive Officer Abu Taher Muhammad Jabed focused the issue during his keynote presentation.

Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Mokammel Hossain said the present government has been working relentlessly for creating an investment-friendly atmosphere for successful promotion of tourism.

Improved communication and services along with need-based infrastructural development are also important for promoting the sector, he said.
 
Arrival method of the tourists needs to be easy for the sector and it is now not only tourism but also a big scope of employment generation, the secretary said adding that if tourism flourishes, employment will be generated in all the districts equally.

 A master plan should be formulated taking all the issues into consideration, he added.

Divisional Commissioner Zafarullah said internal tourists can be the big power of revitalizing the tourism sector in the post-Covid-19 time, so there is no way but to reach the BTB activities to the marginal level.

Abu Taher Jabed told the meeting that formulation of a 20-year master plan has started for development of the country's tourism sector. Upon successful implementation of the plan, a great achievement will come in the sector, he added.
