'August 21 grenade attack aimed at killing Sheikh Hasina'

RANGPUR, August 21, 2022 (BSS) - Leaders of Awami League (AL) and its
associate bodies at separate discussions today said the August 21 grenade
attack was aimed at killing Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina as a
part of deep-rooted conspiracy.
 
The discussions were organised by district and city units of AL at different
venues to pay rich tributes to victims of the August 21 grenade attack on the
peaceful public rally of Sheikh Hasina at Dhaka in 2004.
 
Elaborate daylong programmes were chalked out in observance of the black day.
 
The programmes included hoisting of the national and party flags at half
mast, placing wreaths to portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman and martyrs of August 21 grenade attack and observance of one-
minute silence.
 
Separate processions were brought out protesting against the gruesome grenade
attack by then BNP-Jamaat-led government sponsored militants and human chains
and protest rallies were arranged.
 
Milad and doa mehfils were arranged at mosques and party offices seeking
divine blessings for eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and
martyrs of August 21 grenade attack.
 
President of city AL Shafiur Rahman Shafi presided over a protest rally at
Kachari Bazar Zero Point after leading a huge procession on the city streets.
 
General Secretary of city AL Tushar Kanti Mandal as the keynote speaker
addressed the rally moderated by its Joint General Secretary Nawshad Rashid.
 
Vice-presidents of city AL Rezaul Islam Milan and Advocate Dilshad Islam
Mukul, its Organising Secretaries Foyzul Hasan Rubel and Engineer Shahadat
Hossain, Office Secretary Shafikul Islam Rahel, leaders of city, Thana and
ward units of AL, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Swechchasebak League and
Mohila AL addressed, among others.
 
President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed presided over another discussion
at its office in the evening while its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul
Karim Raju addressed the discussion as the keynote speaker.
 
Vice-presidents of district AL Rosy Rahman and Utpal Sarker, its Joint
General Secretaries Mazed Ali Babul and Motahar Hossain Mondal Mowla,
Organising Secretaries Wazedul Islam and Jashem Bin Hossain Jummon, Treasurer
Mostoba Hossain Ripan, President of district Mohila Awami League Mortuza
Mansur its General Secretary Advocate Zakia Sultana Choite spoke.
 
Advocate Raju said the August 21 grenade attack was part of a deep-rooted
conspiracy that started through the killing of Bangabandhu and most of his
family members on August 15, 1975 to make the nation leaderless and erase AL
from this soil.
 
He blamed the then BNP-Jamaat-led government for the heinous August 21
grenade attack and demanded for unveiling masks of all masterminds behind the
attacks to ensure their exemplary punishments.
 
Shafiur said August 21 grenade attack was a part of continuous conspiracy as
per the master plan that started through killing Bangabandhu to reverse the
country's Independence.
 
Tushar demanded bringing back all absconding killers of Bangabandhu, four
national leaders and the August 21 grenade attackers along with their
masterminds and their execution to free the nation from the stigmas.
 
Mamtaz urged people to foil all conspiracies being hatched by the defeated
anti-liberation forces and further strengthen the hands of Sheikh Hasina for
continuation of national progress on the way to build a developed Sonar
Bangla by 2041 next.
