Janmashtami celebrated in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 18, 2022 (BSS) - Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna and one of the major festivals of the Hindu community is being celebrated in the port city as elsewhere in the district with due religious fervor and zeal.

Sree Sree Janmashtami Udjapan Parishad Bangladesh (SSJUPB) organized a discussion meeting held at city's JM Sen Hall and distributed food items over 200 Mod-Mondir in function today.

The day's programmes include worship of Lord Krishna, GeetaJagna, Kirtan, rally, distribution of sweetmeats and discussions.

Highlighting the significance of Janmashtami, the authority organized a colourful rally which was paraded different important city streets and concluded at the same venue. 

Bangabandhu daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina virtually inaugurated the function while Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen and Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder attended the inaugural function as guests.

Industrialist Sukumar Chowdhury, Central President of the Parishad, presided over the function while engineer Prabir Kumar Sen, Central General Secretary of the Council, delivered the welcome speech.
 
Md Asharf Uddin, Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram, former Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Mominur Rahman and Advocate Rana Dasgupta, among others, attended the function.
 
The three-day long programmes also include illumination of temples, arranging discussion meeting and distribution of sweets, holding Rishi and Boisnab conference, recitation from the holy books (Pabitra Namkirtan), exhibition, scholarship handover among meritorious students and distribution of Prashad, fasting, offering puja, special prayers and recitation from the holy Geeta and feeding to destitute .

CMP and district police have taken up adequate security measures to celebrate the festival peacefully.
