RANGPUR, Aug 7, 2022 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a lover youth to death for raping and killing a teenage girl in village Narsinghgpur Baura Court under Mithapukur upazila here more than one year ago.

Judge Tariq Hossain of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 of Rangpur announced the verdict in presence of convict Nahid Hasan this afternoon. 

According to the prosecution, Nahid Hasan, son of Jahangir Hossain of the same village, developed a love relationship with Motaleb Hossain's teenage daughter.

At one stage, they had sexual relations which resulted in the teenage girl becoming four months pregnant. 
 
When the matter came to light, the teenage girl was told by her relatives to marry Nahid Hasan. 

But, Nahid refused to marry the girl and started avoiding her adopting various tactics.

Under such circumstances, on April 22, 2021, accused Nahid Hasan called the teenage girl on her mobile phone and asked her to come out. 

When she came out of house, Nahid took her to a nearby maize field, raped and strangled her and escaped from the place leaving the body. 

After two days, local people found the dead body thyere and informed Mithapukur police station. 
 
Police came to the spot, recovered the body and conducted its autopsy at the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue. 

The victim's father filed a murder case accusing Nahid Hasan in this connection with Mithapukur police station. 

Later, police arrested Nahid Hasan and he gave a confessional statement under section 164 in the court. 

After examining 14 witnesses in the case, the judge found Nahid Hasan guilty beyond any doubt and announced the verdict.

 
Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Naynur Rahman Topi stood for the state while senior Advocate Abdul Haque Pramanik defended the accused side in the case.
