RANGPUR, Aug 4, 2022 (BSS) - Community-based early preparedness at grassroots
levels alongside strengthening efficient emergency response management
systems could substantially reduce risks of natural disasters, loss of lives
and properties.

The opinion came today at an emergency meeting of the Upazila Emergency
Disaster Response Coordination Committee organized by the upazila
administration at Gangachara upazila parishad auditorium in the district.

Gangachara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ershad Uddin presided over the
meeting participated by members of the Upazila Emergency Disaster Response
Coordination Committee and upazila level officials and local public
representatives.

Moderated by Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mominul Haque, Gangachara
upazila Vice-chairman Shaju Ahmed Lal, Upazila Social Service Officer
Mosaddekur Rahman, union parishad chairmen Liyakat Ali and Abdullah Al Hadi
addressed the meeting.

The speakers discussed floods, river erosion, earthquake and other natural
disasters, statistics on losses of human lives, and properties and discussed
the way-outs to reduce risks in disaster-prone areas during natural
calamities.
 
They put emphasis on coordinated efforts of volunteers, community leaders and
public representatives in creating awareness and disseminating necessary
knowledge among common people in disaster-prone areas.

The UNO urged all concerned to adopt early preparedness and ensure efficient
emergency response management systems through effective dissemination of
information among commoners to minimize losses during natural disasters.
