
JAMALPUR, June 21, 2022 (BSS) – As the water in the river Jamuna continued to rise, the flood situation in the district further deteriorated and affecting more people today.
Water Development Board sources said during the last 24 hours, water level in the river Jamuna rose by 8 cm and was flowing 57 cm above the red mark (danger level) at Bahadurabad ghat point till 3 pm.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said with the rising of flood water more standing crops on 3465 hectares of land including T-Aman seed bed, Aush, jute, vegetable, chilly, maize and sesame were submerged in all the seven upazilas of the district.
The DAE office sources said, various crops on 836 hectares were submersed in Bakshiganj Upazila while 588 hectares in Madarganj, 922 hectares in Dewanganj, 360 hectares in Islampur, 146 hectares in Melandah, 544 hectares in Sarishabari and 69 hectares in Jamalpur Sadar.
District Primary Education Office sources said, teaching in 66 schools were suspended due to flood.
Civil Surgeon of Jamalpur Dr Pronoy Kanti Das said 80 medical teams are ready to work in the flood affected areas. After visiting the flood affected areas, the Civil Surgeon said, health services in the community clinics would be continued.
