Strengthening community policing stressed to build peaceful society


 
RANGPUR, June 16, 2022 (BSS) - Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Alim Mahmud has stressed on strengthening of community policing activities for ensuring sustainable peace in the society.
 
"Community policing plays a vital role in enhancing interaction, mutual confidence and understanding between police and people to prevent crimes for building a peaceful society and accelerating national development," he said.
 
The RpMP Chief was addressing the general meeting of Rangpur Metropolitan Community Policing Committee followed by formation of its new executive committee at the Hotel North View auditorium here on Wednesday night as the chief guest.
 
Outgoing President of Rangpur Metropolitan Community Policing Committee heroic freedom fighter and former Commander of Rangpur unit Command of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Mosaddek Hossain Bablu presided over the meeting.
 
Leaders of the outgoing executive committee discussed the activities of Rangpur Metropolitan Community Policing Committee since its inception in 2019 and presented reports on financial accounts and those were adopted unanimously.
 
After elaborate organizational discussions, the meeting unanimously elected the next two-year term 103-member executive committee of the organization on expiry tenure of the previous committee.
 
Freedom fighter Mosaddek Hossain Bablu and Arif Hossain Tito were elected as the President and General Secretary respectively of the new 103-member executive committee of Rangpur Metropolitan Community Policing Committee.
 
Additional Police Commissioner of RpMP Md. Mehedul Karim, its Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Police (Headquarters and Admin) Md. Mahidul Islam, its DC (City Special Branch) Md. Abu Bakar Siddique, DC (Detective Branch) Kazi Muttaki Ibnu Minan, DC (Crime) Md. Abu Maruf Hossain, DC (Traffic) Md. Menhazul Alam and senior officials were present.
 
The RpMP Chief laid special emphasis on ensuring better coordination among police and members of community policing committee to resolve minor problems, conflicts and disputes locally with assistance of common people and save commoners from hassles.
 
He called upon members of community policing committee to engage spontaneous efforts, involving common people, and extend full cooperation to police in preventing and resisting social crimes, terrorism, drug and militancy.
