Husband gets life term for killing wife in Laxmipur

 LAXMIPUR, May 23, 2022 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife and fined Taka 10,000, in default, to suffer one year more in jail of the district in 2020.
 
The convicted was identified as Md. Rashed, son of Ali Haider of Dakshin Raipur village in Charmohna union of Raipur upazila of the district.

Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Rahibul Islam handed down the verdict this noon in the presence of the accused.

Public prosecutor (PP) Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter.

According to court sources, Rashed got married in 2020 to Sumi, daughter of Khokon Chayal of Dakshin Charbangshi village in the upazila.

 After six months of marriage, Sumi died suddenly in her sleep on the night of May 3, her husband Rashed informed her father-in-law's house.

The victim's mother informed the police station, the police recovered the body and sent it to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy and filed an unnatural death case with the police station.

Hajera Begum, the mother of the deceased, filed a case against Rashed with Raipur Police Station on July 7 of the same year, citing the incident of suffocation in the autopsy report.

Investigating officer submitted the investigation report to the court on October 19, 2020 against the accused.

Court PP Jasim Uddin said the court had sentenced Md Rashed to life imprisonment as he was proven guilty in the murder case.
