
RANGPUR, April 24, 2022 (BSS) - The government has allocated 2,789.45 tonnes of rice under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme for 2,78,945 poor families of the district to assist them in celebrating the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr festivity this year.
"The government has allocated 10-kg of rice per card holder family under the special VGF programme," District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Md. Motahar Hossain told BSS today.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the rice for distribution among the poor and distressed families of all 76 unions and three municipalities in eight upazilas of the district.
The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees have already completed preparations to distribute the rice among the listed VGF card holder families.
"Each of the beneficiary families will get 10-kg of VGF rice in all 76 unions and three pourashabhas in the district where the distribution process will be completed before the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity," Hossain said.
Under the programme, 156.02 tonnes of rice will be distributed among 15,602 VGF card holder families in Sadar upazila, 685.84 tonnes among 68,584 families in Mithapukur, 381.32 tonnes among 38,132 families in Pirganj and 485.11 tonnes among 48,511 families in Pirgachha upazila.
Besides, 276.65 tonnes of VGF rice will be distributed among 27,665 families in Kawnia, 429.38 tonnes among 42,938 families in Gangachara, 238.47 tonnes among 23,847 families in Badarganj and 136.66 tonnes among 13,666 families in Taraganj upazilas. In addition to this, 30.81 tonnes of VGF rice will be distributed among 3,081 poor and distressed families each in Badarganj and Pirganj municipalities and 15.40 tonnes of rice will be distributed among 1,540 families in Haragachh municipality.
Talking to BSS, Chairman Amenur Rahman of Chandanpat union in Sadar upazila said he has already got an allocation of 30.59 tonnes of VGF rice for distribution among 3,559 families of his union.
"We have prepared lists of beneficiaries to begin distribution of the special VGF rice within the next couple days and finish the process before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivity," Rahman added.
Chairman Masud Rana of Saddyapuskorini Union in Sadar upazila said he has got an allocation of 36.46 tonnes of VGF rice for distribution among 3,646 poor and distressed families of his union.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan said adequate steps have been taken to complete distribution of the VGF rice allocated by the government among card holder families on time to assist them in celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
