RANGPUR, April 23, 2022 (BSS) - Traders are happy with better sales and

business of Eid items as thousands of buyers are rushing to the markets and
shopping places in the city almost nine days ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr
festivity.
 
As the Covid-19 pandemic situation improved, buyers are trying to complete
purchases of Eid items well ahead of the holy festivity to avoid last moment
traffic jams and unbearable rush amid hot and humid weather in Eid shopping
centres.

Eid shopping has already reached the peak at all bigger markets, shopping
malls, complexes and roadside and makeshift markets amid tight security
measures.

Vice-president of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Manjur
Ahmed Azad said selling of Eid items is marking a better business following
increase of incomes of common people despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The business places have worn festive looks with rushing men, women,
adolescents, housewives, girls, boys, students and youths buying items of
their own choice," he said.
 
Rangpur Metropolitan Police control room sources said security measures and
monitoring of the law and order situation have been tightened to enable
common people marketing without untoward incidents in the city.
 
According to market sources, prices of clothes for males, females, babies and
children are almost 25 to 35 percent higher this time than the previous years
though the increased price has no impact on purchasing capacity of buyers.

Hundreds of Eid shoppers have been rushing daily to RMAC Shopping Complex,
Super Market, Salek Market, Jamal Market, Station Market, Rajib Gandhi
Market, Honumantola Market, Jahaz Company Shopping Complex, City Plaza,
'Karupannya', Moti Plaza, Salek Market, Jamal Market, Maya Exclusive Fashion
House, 'Adi Janata', Bismillah Garments, Madina Garments, Golden Tower,
'Rangan', 'Zila Parishad Biponi Bitan', 'Shah Amanat', 'Rajanigandha', Jahaz
Company Shopping Complex, City Plaza, 'Karupannya', Moti Plaza and many other
markets, shopping malls and centres in the city.

 Talking to BSS, rushing buyers at different city markets said they were
purchasing clothes and other Eid items for babies, children, youths, males
and females at higher prices this time than the previous years.

 
Each of the female three pieces is being sold at rates between Taka 1,500 and
15,000, saree between Taka 1,200 and 40,000, pant pieces between Taka 1,200
and 4,000, jeans pants between Taka 1,500 and 5,000 and shirt pieces between
Taka 1,000 and 4,500.

Young shillings Rafiul Islam and Muhaimenul Islam at RAMC Shopping Complex
today said they already purchased shirts, Punjabis and trousers of their own
choice from a shop in the market.

Student of Begum Rokeya University Sumaiya Akhter at a Super Market said, "I
bought a three-piece for Taka 4,500. This time the price seems to be a bit
higher than the last few years."

Sohael Hossain, a shopkeeper in the market, said, "We are buying clothes at
higher prices, so we have to sell at higher prices."

College students Fatema Khatun, Morsheda Begum and Mizanur Rahman at Jahaz
Company Shopping Complex said they already purchased their Eid clothes,
cosmetics and shoes at 30 to 40 percent higher prices this year compared to
the previous years.

 Couple Abdur Rahman and Moushumi Begum came with their daughter Nasima, 14,
and son Sohanur, 12, to the market and purchased Eid clothes and other items
for their children at higher rates this time.

 Traders Maidul Islam at the Salek Market and Akkas Ali at the Super Market
also expressed happiness over sales of various Eid items, cosmetics and other
goods and hoped that the sales would continue increasing daily till before
the Eid day.

 President of Rangpur Chamber Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu said traders are
expecting a good business as sales would continue to increase till the last
day before Eid-ul-Fitr.
