LAKSHMIPUR, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Three members of the same family, including a grandfather and his two grandchildren, drowned in a pond beside the Lakshmipur-Majuchowdhuryhat road in the district this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as grandfather Abu Siddiq, 50, his grandson Piyas Hossain, 9, and granddaughter Pomi Akter, 7.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the three went to the pond beside the road for taking bath at noon. At one stage, Abu Siddiq drowned first, followed by Piyas and Pomi.

Later, local people saw the bodies of Abu Siddiq and Pomi floating in the water and recovered them.

Piyas was also rescued and taken to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead.

Residential Medical Officer of the hospital, Dr Arup Pal, confirmed the death.

Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Md Wahid Parvez also confirmed the incident, saying that the bodies of all three victims had been recovered.
