RAJSHAHI, Aug 21, 2026 (BSS) - The Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gold Cup Football Tournament 2026 is set to begin tomorrow at 3 pm at the Rajshahi Muktijuddho Smriti Stadium with a total of 10 teams participating in the tournament.

Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu is expected to inaugurate the tournament.

In the opening match, Rajshahi City Corporation will face the Bagmara Upazila team.

The champion team will receive Tk 1 lakh, while the runner-up will receive Tk 50,000 as prize money.

A press briefing was held on Thursday afternoon at the conference room of the Rajshahi Muktijuddho Smriti Stadium ahead of the tournament.

At the briefing, Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam said the football event is set to begin with a colourful and festive arrangement under the slogan "Rajshahi will play, Bangladesh will win".

All preparations have been completed to organise the tournament in a grand manner.

The DC further said, "Let the youth return to the field, let talent flourish, and let a drug-free, healthy and prosperous Rajshahi be built through sports."

Bringing the youth back to the playing field, giving equal importance to sports alongside general education and scouting talented players from the grassroots are the main goals and objectives of the tournament.

He expressed hope that new talented players would emerge from Rajshahi through the competition and contribute to the national level in the future.

He invited people from all walks of life in Rajshahi to attend the match on Saturday and enjoy the game in a festive atmosphere.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Sabur Ali, District Sports Officer Md Jahangir Hossain and sports personalities were present at the event.

Later, meritorious athletes from Rajshahi district were felicitated for their outstanding performances in Notun Kuri Sports 2026 (Season-1).
