SUNAMGANJ, Aug 19, 2026 (BSS) - Cash assistance and rice were distributed today among farmers affected by excessive rainfall and upstream hill floods in Dowarabazar upazila of the district recently as part of the government’s third phase of humanitarian help.
The relief items were distributed among families at Surma Union Parishad premises this afternoon.
Under the third phase, each family received Taka 3,000 in cash and 15 kilograms of rice.
According to local administration sources, the special government assistance is being provided for three months as part of efforts to ensure long-term and sustainable support for people affected by the floods.
Surma Union Parishad Chairman Harun-or-Rashid presided over the distribution programme. Dowarabazar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Arup Ratan Singh attended the programme as the chief guest, while Upazila Agriculture Officer Ashraful Alam, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Lutfur Rahman and Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Md. Shawkat Ali were present as special guests.
A total of 143 affected farmers in Surma union received the humanitarian assistance under the programme today.
Overall, 1,040 farmers across Dowarabazar upazila have been brought under the government’s humanitarian assistance programme.
