MANIKGANJ, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court today fined a person Tk 50,000 for illegally lifting sand from a restricted area of the river in Daulatpur upazila of the district.

According to locals, some people have long been illegally extracting sand from restricted areas of the river near residential areas and croplands, posing a threat to homes and agricultural land.

Acting on complaints from local residents, the Daulatpur upazila administration conducted a mobile court in the Bania Ghona area and destroyed parts of a dredger, including around 500 feet of pipe, used for illegal sand lifting.

Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Probir Biswas conducted the mobile court.

Such drives would continue in the public interest, he said.
