DINAJPUR, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - A schoolboy was killed after being run over by a bus on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway in Bat Toli area under Phulbari upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased was identified as Sifat Raihan, 10, a third-grade student of North Point Kindergarten School and the son of Mahmud Hossain of Uttar Sujapur village in Phulbari municipality.

Officer-in-Charge of Phulbari Police Station, Inspector Md Shahidul Islam, confirmed the matter.

The accident occurred around 8.30am when Sifat was going to school with his mother, Rikta Begum, and his two-year-old sibling Sijan. A bus of Shahi Paribahan travelling from Dinajpur towards Bogura hit Sifat and his mother in the area.

Sifat came under the wheels of the bus and sustained critical injuries. He was rescued and taken to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex, where an on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Rikta Begum and Sijan are currently receiving treatment at the health complex.
