KHULNA, Aug 16, 2026 (BSS) - A crewman of a commercial vessel was rescued after accidentally falling into a river in the Angtihara area of the Sundarbans on Saturday (Yesterday).

Coast Guard personnel rescued the crewman during a patrol in the area and safely handed him over to his vessel, said Lieutenant Commander Mahbub Hossain, media officer of Coast Guard West Zone, on Sunday (today).

According to Coast Guard sources, the commercial vessel MV Alfadanga Pride arrived in Bangladesh from India carrying fly ash and anchored near the Shakbaria River in the Angtihara area of the Sundarbans.

At around noon on Saturday, the crewman accidentally fell into the river while working on the upper deck of the vessel.

A patrol team of Coast Guard Station Koyra, which was conducting a regular patrol nearby, noticed the incident and immediately launched a rescue operation.

The Coast Guard personnel rescued the crewman from the river and safely returned him to his vessel.

Lieutenant Commander Mahbub Hossain said the Coast Guard would continue such emergency rescue operations in the future.
