118 fresh Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Rangpur Friday

RANGPUR, Jan 28, 2022 (BSS) - Some 118 fresh Covid-19 cases were diagnosed
after testing 376 samples at two Covid-19 laboratories at 31.38 percent
positivity rate in Rangpur division on Friday.

   Health officials said the pandemic situation is hastily deteriorating in
the division as the number of Covid-19 cases continues rising everyday during
the last more than two weeks.   

   Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 46.45 percent on
Thursday, 45 percent on Wednesday, 39.72 percent on Tuesday, 35.80 percent on
Monday, 43.57 percent on Sunday and 36.59 percent on Saturday last in the
division.   

   Among the 118 new patients, 45 were reported positive after testing 188
samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) at the
23.94 percent positivity rate today.

   "The 45 new patients include 27 from Rangpur, 12 from Gaibandha, four from
Lalmonirhat and two from Nilphamari districts," said Principal of RpMC
Professor Dr Bimal Chandra Roy.

   On the other hand, 73 new patients were reported positive after testing
188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College
(MARMC) in Dinajpur at the 37.23 percent positivity rate today.

   "The 73 new patients include 71 from Dinajpur and one each from Panchagarh
and Nilphamari districts," said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir
Hossain.
 
   Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam told BSS that the
total number of Covid-19 patients rose to 58,469 as 118 new positive cases
were reported today from across the division.

   "The district-wise break up of total 58,469 patients include 13,254 of
Rangpur, 3,983 Panchagarh, 4,737 of Nilphamari, 2,898 of Lalmonirhat, 4,732
of Kurigram, 8,020 of Thakurgaon, 15,764 of Dinajpur and 5,081 of Gaibandha
in the division," he added.
